What is the Seventeenth Judicial District On-Line Self-Help Center?

 

The On-Line Self-Help Center is intended to be used as a resource to assist citizens in obtaining information to resolve a variety of issues confronting those who are involved in or anticipating legal procedures, including dissolution of marriage actions, allocation of parental responsibility cases (custody cases), guardianships, county court traffic, misdemeanor and civil cases, small claims actions, name changes and other matters which may involve legal proceedings. You may obtain forms which can be used in any judicial district in Colorado in either the Adobe pdf format or in Microsoft Word format at a comprehensive approved forms site on the Colorado Courts Home Page.  You can access the Colorado Courts forms location by clicking Colorado Supreme Court Approved Forms Site.  You may also obtain assistance at the I-Can Self-Help Legal Form Preparation website. Tips on Representing Yourself in Court

Many people who visit the Self-Help Center represent themselves in court.  If you elect to do so, you should be aware that court proceedings are formal and orderly.  How you manage your case presentation and present yourself to a judge or jury can have a direct effect on the outcome of your case.  View our Tips for Self-Representation page.

Simplified Domestic Relations Procedure

Pro Se Divorce Clinic

The Adams/Broomfield Bar Association offers a bi-monthly Pro Se Divorce Clinic.  This is a free program for persons representing themselves in non-contested dissolution of marriage proceedings.  Attorney volunteers provide an overview of dissolution of marriage law and procedures in Colorado.  Participants may ask questions on how to fill out and file their own paperwork.  Participants should purchase the forms for Dissolution of Marriage or Legal Separation actions from the Clerk's Office on the first floor of the Adams County Justice Center, 1100 Judicial Center Drive, Brighton, Colorado.

Children Cope With Change Seminars

The "Children Cope With Change" seminar must be attended by any and all parties involved in dissolution of marriage or legal separation actions involving children or parties to allocation of parental responsibilities or child custody cases.  The seminar provides four hours of education, parent handouts, and a Certificate of Completion fulfilling the court requirements.  Cost of the seminar is $50.00 per participant.  Pre-registration with payment is required.  There is a $10.00 re-schedule or cancellation fee. If a parent attends without pre-registering, the fee for attending the seminar is $55.00.  These costs are subject to change without notice.  For more information, call (303) 584-9815.

In the Best Interests of the Children Seminars

Shared Parenting Support Program©

The Shared Parenting Support Program© was developed by Frank Leek, Ph.D., a clinical and forensic psychologist from California through his work mediating parenting plans, conducting parenting evaluations, and helping families to make the transition from dissolution of marriage to effective co-parenting after the court proceedings had been concluded.  

Only trained and licensed mental health professionals who have completed an authorized SPSP© workshop and have completed appropriate application can claim to be certified as SPSP © therapists.  

The program consists of ten to twelve one hour sessions.  In order to participate in the program a temporary or permanent custody or parenting time order must be in place.  The program emphasizes developing  communication tools and skills between parents to make existing parenting plans work, not to change the plan.  For more information please contact:  Mr. Craig Eades, (720) 272-7830.

Resource Center
