Overview of the Seventeenth Judicial District

 

The Seventeenth Judicial District includes Adams County and the City and County of Broomfield.  The district employs more than seventy people and represents a population of over four hundred thousand people.  There are ten district court judges, seven county court judges and six magistrates who serve on the Seventeenth Judicial District bench.    Each of the active links below contains biographical information for the judge or magistrate which can be accessed by clicking on the judicial officer's name.  For biographical information regarding all of the judges who have served in the Seventeenth Judicial District since the district was created by the Colorado legislature in 1959, visit the Judges of the Seventeenth Judicial District, 1959 to Date page.

District Court Judges

The District Court has five criminal divisions, two civil divisions, two domestic relations divisions, and  two juvenile divisions, and a court in the City and County of Broomfield.  District Court judges are appointed by the governor and must stand for retention every six years.

County Court Judges

The County Court has one civil and five criminal divisions in Adams County.  There is one county court division in the City and County of Broomfield.  County Court judges are appointed by the governor and must stand for retention every four years.

District Administrator and Clerk of the Combined City and County of Broomfield Courts

The District Administrator is the chief administrative officer for the Seventeenth Judicial District.  Her duties include supervision of personnel, budget formulation and management, and overall administrative management of the judicial district subject to the authority of the Chief Judge.  She serves at the pleasure of the Chief Judge.

In the Seventeenth Judicial District she also serves the dual capacity of Clerk of the Combined Courts for the City and County of Broomfield.

The Clerk of the Adams County Combined Courts is the custodian of records insuring that all court files are complete and accurate as well as supervising deputy clerks to insure that the integrity of the records of the District and County Court are maintained.
